João Lopes was born in Lisbon in 1979, and from an early age, the city became his stage for discovery and visual inspiration. Although he initially pursued a scientific education, he soon realized his true passion lay in the visual arts—graphic design, web design, motion design, and visual effects (VFX).
Over the past two decades, João has built a solid and multifaceted career that blends creativity, technical skill, and innovation. As the founder of the post-production studio Pixel Poison, he has led projects in advertising, film, and music videos, earning national and international recognition. As a film editor, VFX artist, and VFX supervisor, João has received numerous awards, including Gold and Bronze at the Lusophone Creativity Awards.
In addition to his professional work, João generously shares his knowledge as a guest lecturer at our school, where he teaches the Image Manipulation in VFX module. His hands-on and passionate approach inspires students to explore the endless possibilities of post-production, emphasizing both technical execution and visual storytelling.
With collaborative experience at studios like Sputnik, Bikini, and Molotov, and a client portfolio that includes brands such as Microsoft, Samsung, and Cooler Master, João brings an up-to-date industry perspective to the classroom—alongside a deep commitment to the creative process.
