Advanced Design Inquiry

The first semester establishes the critical, conceptual and technical foundations of the MA. Through Advanced Interior Architecture Concepts and Advanced Textile and Lighting Techniques, students explore contemporary approaches to spatial design, materiality, textiles, lighting and human experience. Studio-based projects and research-led inquiry encourage experimentation, critical reflection and the development of a personal design methodology, preparing students to address increasingly complex interior architecture challenges with creativity, confidence and professional awareness.

• Advanced Interior Architecture Concepts

  Explore advanced theories, methodologies and contemporary approaches to interior architecture through research-led design. Develop your own critical design philosophy while investigating spatial narratives, adaptive reuse, sustainability and human-centred environments. This module challenges you to think beyond aesthetics, creating meaningful spaces that respond to complex cultural, environmental and social contexts.

• Advanced Textile & Lighting Techniques

  Investigate how materials, textiles and lighting influence atmosphere, perception and spatial experience. Through experimentation and technical exploration, you will develop innovative material strategies that combine aesthetics, functionality and sustainability, learning how sensory qualities can transform the way people interact with interior environments.

Immersive and Computational Design

The second semester expands students’ design capabilities through Multi-Sensory and Immersive Space Planning and Parametric and Computational Interior Architecture. Students investigate how space can engage the senses, influence experience and respond to human behaviour, while developing advanced digital and computational approaches to design. Through experimental studio projects and research-informed practice, they explore new spatial possibilities and strengthen the conceptual, technical and methodological skills required for innovative contemporary interior architecture.

• Multi-Sensory & Immersive Space Planning

  Design immersive interior environments that engage sight, sound, touch and movement to create meaningful user experiences. Explore behavioural design, wellbeing, experiential spaces and emerging approaches to human-centred design while developing projects that respond to contemporary hospitality, cultural and commercial contexts.

• Parametric & Computational Interior Architecture

  Discover how computational design, parametric modelling and emerging digital technologies are transforming interior architecture. Learn advanced digital workflows that enable you to generate, test and optimise innovative spatial solutions while integrating sustainability, performance and fabrication into the design process.

Independent Practice and Professional Resolution

The third semester is dedicated to the Final Major Project and Portfolio, allowing students to develop a substantial, self-directed interior architecture project. They bring together research, concept development, technical resolution and critical reflection to produce an original and professionally presented body of work. The semester strengthens postgraduate autonomy, personal design identity and professional readiness, culminating in a portfolio that demonstrates advanced creative, strategic and technical capability.

Final Major Project & Portfolio

Undertake an ambitious, self-directed design thesis that reflects your personal interests and professional aspirations. You will have the freedom to specialise in an area of your choice, such as hospitality design (hotels, bars and restaurants), luxury residential interiors, retail design, workplace and office design, yacht interiors, exhibition and ephemeral spaces, or another approved specialist field.
